COMMON-LAW and SPOUSAL 
SPONSORSHIP

Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for immigration to Canada. If successful, the sponsored person obtains permanent resident status, allowing the couple (or family, if applicable) to build their lives in Canada.

Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse, partner

  • at least 18 years old

  • a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident living in Canada

  • able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability

parents sponsorship

PARENTS SPONSORSHIP

The Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP) and the Super Visa Program are two programs that offer Canadian citizens and permanent residents the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada.

Who is eligible to sponsor the parents

  • at least 18 years old

  • a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident living in Canada

  • meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) required for the size of their family unit and provide Canada Revenue Agency issued notices of assessment as proof

  • sign a sponsorship agreement that acknowledges your promise to provide for the basic needs of family member(s) for a period of 20 years,
